Monotype Imaging has made its FlipFont solution available to 3 UK customers on specific handsets. The company has also expanded its selection of typefaces and its range of FlipFont-supported mobile devices, which enable users to swap their phones system default font with mobile-optimised, downloadable fonts. Users are able to change the look and feel of their device by having the user interface, phone menus and various applications display in a chosen font. The FlipFont application and suite of fonts are available for download from 3 UKs mobile homepage now.
FlipFont is accessible to 3 UK customers using the Nokia N95, N95 8GB and N73 handsets, the same models supported by Vodafone UK with its FlipFont solution, which is available through the Vodafone Live! portal. New to the handset lineup is Nokias N96 mobile, which supports FlipFont for both Vodafone UK and 3 UK users. Monotype Imaging has also increased the number of downloadable fonts available to
3 UK and Vodafone UK users to 19.
3 UK users are now able to personalise their phones with fonts they prefer, says Monotype Imaging Executive Vice President, John Seguin. Todays announcement underlines the major role fonts play in making phones more appealing. Individuals may prefer a font that simply looks more fun. Alternatively, a user may choose a font that seems more legible. In any scenario, FlipFont enables the phone to become more personally functional.
The latest FlipFont additions include the ITC Berranger Hand, Blackmoor , Burweed, ITC Flora, Gigi, ITC Goudy Sans, ITC Humana Sans, ITC Zapf Chancery and Zemestro Italic fonts.Designs range from the light-hearted and playful to those that suggest boldness and swagger, says Allan Haley, Director of Words and Letters at Monotype Imaging. Were committed to adding to our FlipFont collection in order to offer enhanced choice to consumers. With solid growth projected for mobile data services, our goal is to extend FlipFont coverage to a wider range of phones worldwide.
As part of the FlipFont solution, Monotype Imagings scalable iType font engine enables the downloaded font to be linked with the system font, providing users with the ability to access non-Latin characters, such as Greek or Cyrillic, which are not contained in the downloaded font. While sufficient in most cases, as each FlipFont typeface supports Latin-based European languages, this feature preserves the ability to use characters from the wider character set available from the default font.
