Fortune 100 Failing on Mobile

Fortune 100 brands like Apple, Pepsi and Walt Disney have failed to get up to speed with mobile, according to research by The Search Agency.
Using Google’s mobile best practice, the company analysed the mobile web offers of some of the world’s best-known brands, looking at five factors: site format, app presence, social presence, load speed and calculated load speed.

Coca Cola and FedEx tied for first place with a score of 4.49 out of 5 – although both scored 0 for their apps, which are not signposted anywhere on the mobile web.

Only nine out of 100 use responsive design sites, identified as best practice by Google for serving content cross-platform, 47 use dedicated mobile sites, while 44 do not have a site that is optimised for mobile. The average load time was about five seconds, well above Google’s recommendation of under one second.

The average score for all companies in the study was 2.31 out of five. Check out the full anaylysis here.
