Foyles and txtr Partner for Smartphone eBook service

British bookseller Foyles has partnered with eReading solutions provider txtr to launch an eBook service, including free apps for Android and iOS, which offers over 200,000 titles.

“At Foyles, we are very excited by the developments in reading and bookselling afforded by digital technology,” says Sam Husain, Foyles’ chief executive. “Our new eBook store and apps, Foyles powered by txtr, make buying and reading eBooks easy, without the added expense of having to buy new hardware. It is the next step in our ongoing journey to serve our customers with a choice of books, across the widest possible range, in every format.”

The UK is currently the largest eBook market in Europe, with over 10 per cent of adults use an eReader. In terms of eBook penetration, Europe as a whole falls behind the US, but the gap is narrowing – with countries including Germany and the Netherlands seeing growth figures of over 200 per cent per year, according to investment banking firm GP Bullhound.
