Mobile content and technology development company, ROK Entertainment Group, has announced the launch of the worlds first text for mobile TV service for mass-market 2.5G handsets.
Consumers with a Nokia handset such as the 6630, 6680, the N70 or the N90 can claim their free demo by texting ROK S to 80160. Owners of new Sony Ericsson handsets such as the W600i, the W800i or the K600 should text ROK J to 80160. The full list of compatible handsets is shown on the ROK TV website.
We launched the UKs first ever independent mass-market 2.5G mobile TV service in October last year, simply to prove our patent-pending technology works says ROK Chairman and CEO, Jonathan Kendrick. Now we are able to offer a free download so people can trial our full-screen, high resolution Mobile TV service for themselves, without having to sign up to a 3G service.
Compatible with 20 top-selling handsets, ROK TVs channel line-up includes CNN, ITN, The Cartoon Network and National Geographic, as well as music, lifestyle and comedy channels. ROK TV is available as a subscription service from ROK TV, and is charged at 99p per channel per month or 9.99 per month for all 12 channels.
Much is being written about the future of Mobile TV, but the fact is that Mobile TV is only available at present on certain niche 3G services adds ROK Marketing Director, Bruce Renny. What we have set out to do with ROK TV is to make the service available to as many people as possible right here, right now – and, with the free download via text, we have made it easy for people to trial the service.”
