FT Revamps iOS Web App

The Financial Times has revamped its HTML5 web app, adding richer content and personalisation functionality.

The FT famously dropped its native iOS app last year, so it makes sense that this web app is initially targeted at iPhone and iPad users, as well as desktop. The Android app – which the paper opted to keep running – will be updated with the new functionality in the coming months.

As for whats actually new: the UI has seen an overhaul, with a cleaner design and more intuitive navigation; the customisable MyFT hub enables users to save articles and access recommendations; and videos, embedded slideshows and hi-res images are available for the first time on mobile.

“These changes reflect the growing importance of mobile and our commitment to provide the best reader experience regardless of channel,” said FT.com managing director, Rob Grimshaw. “The redesign of our web app for iPad in April resulted in readers consuming 33 per cent more content in the app. We will continue to improve the functionality and design of FT journalism across many different devices.”
