Futurlink Celebrates 16m Downloads

Proximity marketing firm FuturLink says it has achieved more than 16m mobile downloads via Bluetooth in its proximity marketing campaigns.

Futurlink’s technology enables brands and content owners to reach mobile phone users using Bluetooth transmitters (aka Access Points) that send videos, images, coupons, applications and games, with no data charges for each piece of content distributed. FuturLink’s platforms enables brands and agencies to create, manage and deploy mobile proximity marketing campaigns, controlling the results in real-time.

FuturLink Access Points are usually located in retail environments or public spaces, either permanently or just for the duration of the campaign. When used in retail environments, brands influence consumers (sending them a coupon for example), usually near the purchasing decision or at the point of sale area.

Futurlink says that collectively across all its campaigns, around 200m mobile phones have received an invitation to download a file for free via Bluetooth, so the 16m downloads represents a conversion-to-download rate of 8 per cent, with a significant amount of recurrent users. In addition to the Bluetooth download, FuturLink Access Points also offer consumers the option of accessing a local page via wi-fi to download the content. These downloads are not included in the 16m figure.

“Not only (do) these results illustrate our leadership in proximity marketing, but they provide as well important insight about consumer behaviour, showing for example higher recurrence and higher download rate in permanent networks at shopping malls in Saudi Arabia than in the rest of the world,” says FuturLink CEO, Ricardo Garcia.
