Gemalto Revenues Rise to €2.2bn

Digital security firm Gemalto has reported annual revenues of €2.2bn (£1.9bn) for 2012, a growth of nine per cent year-on-year.

The largest part of this growth came from its Mobile Communication arm, which accounted for 49 per cent of revenues. The segment recorded revenues of €1.1bn, up 10 per cent year-on-year – a growth Gemalto puts down to strong performance, in both the Embedded Software & Products and the Platforms & Services activities, across all the geographical regions in which it operates.

Overall profits from ongoing operations grew by 26 per cent year-on-year, to €305m.

“Gemalto achieved a milestone year, posting record results and delivering faster than planned on what we set out to do: over the past three years we grew our revenue and profit by close to 40 per cent and 80 per cent respectively, and kept a strong net cash position,” said Gemalto CEO Olivier Piou. “In 2012, we also secured a large number of long-term contracts in the mobile payment and government sectors, which will bolster our profitable expansion into the future. With the growth opportunities that we see in front of us, we have reinforced the investments in our businesses, preparing to fulfil the ambitions of our next long-term development plan.”

Gemalto says it is anticipating double-digit growth in annual revenue for 2013.
