Independent app store GetJar, the second largest app store in the world after Apples App Store, has announced the launch of The Gettie Awards 2010 for mobile application developers.
The awards will honour the best in application development across all major platforms, with the awards ceremony taking place on the evening of the first day of VentureBeat’s annual MobileBeat conference, scheduled for 12 July, in San Francisco.
There are seven awards up for grabs, with the winners from each category determined by review of the app itself. The Gettie Award winner will be determined by a combination of popular vote and judge’s votes. The deadline for entries is 25 June.
The award categories are:
- Best Android application
- Best Blackberry application
- Best iPhone application
- Best Java application
- Best Symbian application
- Best Windows Mobile application
- The Gettie Award for best overall application
“We are thrilled to honour the best and brightest application developers with The Gettie Awards this year,” says GetJar founder and CEO, Ilja Laurs. “We feel it is important to recognize the developer community’s achievements across all major platforms to really appreciate the amazing content that is responsible for today’s vibrant app economy.”
