Givey is among the 16 charitable giving organisations and ventures awarded with funding through the £10m Innovation in Giving Fund. This second round of funding, after 15 ideas were selected by UK innovation agency NESTA in February, aims to back another set of ideas for increasing volunteering and charitable giving.
The fund is part of a £34m package introduced in September 2011 by Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society. “We want to connect more people with the power to make a positive difference,” says Hurd. “Through this Fund we want to back brilliant new ideas that can help make that happen.”
Givey enables users to make charitable donations via SMS, Twitter, or Facebook. Each donation is tax efficient, as it allows charities to reclaim the tax on donations from UK taxpayers. Other organisations which received funding include Apps for Good, a platform which teaches young people how to build apps to solve problems, and See the Difference, which works with creative companies, charities and individuals to create apps that encourage giving to charity.
“With Givey 2.0 launching in May, we are excited that our efforts to revolutionise the giving space through the use of cutting edge technology has been recognised and invested in by both the public and private sector institutions,” says Givey founder, David Erasmus. “We are looking forward to a long and deepening mutual relationship with NESTA for the progression of our society.”
