Glamoo Suspends UK Operations

Mobile smart buyers club Glamoo has suspended operations in the UK until further notice. The company says it intends to launch fully in Italy before rolling out in other countries.

Glamoos UK director John Russell says that the Glamoo app isnt ready for use in the UK yet. “The main factor in suspending operations in the UK is that the application, which is looking fantastic, needs a bit more research and development. We need to focus on getting it fully operational in Italy first,” he told Mobile Marketing.

Glamoo launched in the UK in March 2010. Buongiorno took a stake in the firm in July, and in November, the company announced that it had hired Jason McMahon, one of the big players in Amazon.coms mobile strategy, as its chief technology officer.

The company operates a Groupon-style system in which affluent European consumers are targeted with a range of customised, geo-localised offers, via mobile and the web. Members “buy” the deal that interests them, and if enough people sign up for any given offer, it goes live.

There is no word from Glamoo as to if or when UK operations will resume, or the prospects for its staff.
