Google and Chrysler have teamed up to create an Android-powered iteration of the Uconnect connected system. The pair will demonstrate the concept at CES 2017 this week.
The system is powered by the newest version of Android, 7.0 (Nougat). The integration is said to enable connectivity and compatibility between the Uconnect system and popular Android apps.
“Google is committed to building Android as a turn-key automotive platform that integrates deeply with the vehicle in a safe and seamless way,” said Patrick Brady, director of Android engineering at Google.
Chris Barman, head of electrical engineering at FCA, added: “This collaboration with Google has been an extremely beneficial opportunity for both companies to explore how in-vehicle infotainment and connectivity technology continues to evolve, and what it takes to meet consumers’ increasing desire for innovation of information with minimal distraction,”
The partnership comes less than a month after Chrysler completed the production of self-driving vehicles along with Waymo, formerly Googles self-driving car project.
