Disney and Lucasfilm have partnered with Google to promote the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens through Googles range of apps.
Fans can opt in by visiting Googles dedicated microsite and picking the light or the dark side to theme the UX of connected Google apps accordingly. This might include appropriate backgrounds for Gmail; content served up through Google Now; or even switching the users navigation icon on Google Maps to an X-Wing or TIE fighter.
Beyond the reskins, Google is promising exclusive content in the lead-up to the films release next month, including a VR tour of the iconic Millennial Falcon.
Opting in also automatically means Star Wars-themed events, like the films release date, are added to the users Google Calendar.
The experience works across Android, iOS, Windows and Chrome OS, though certain services – Chrome, Gmail and YouTube – will only be affected on desktop.
