Google Assistant can now book reservations on more devices

Google has announced that Pixel phone users in 43 US states are now able to use their voice to ask Google Assistant to book restaurant reservations. The Google Assistant feature was built using Google Duplex technology, an AI system that can hold more personalized and realistic human-computer interactions.

To book a reservation, users must tell the Google Assistant where they would like to eat, when they want the table booked for, and how many people will be joining. Google Assistant will even ask for an alternative time if the users first choice is not available.

“The Assistant will then call the restaurant to see if it can accommodate your request. Once your reservation is successfully made, you’ll receive a notification on your phone, an email update and a calendar invite so you don’t forget,” said Scott Huffman, vice president of engineering for Google Assistant.

Previously, the feature was only available on certain devices and in select locations. Huffman revealed that over the next couple of weeks, the Google Assistant feature will become available on more Android and iOS devices.
