Google buys podast app 60dB, it will shut down

60dB teamGoogle has acqui-hired members of the short-form podcast app 60dB’s team in a move that will see the app shutting down on 10 November.

Tiny Garage Labs, which created the app, was setup two years ago. Last year, it developed 60dB to provide personalised audio stories that could be accessed anywhere. It was made available on iOS, Android, online, Alexa, Android Auto and CarPlay.

According to the team, they worked with more than 80 media institutions in producing ‘hundreds of audio stories’ since its launch last year.

“As we considered next steps for 60dB, we came to the conclusion that to accomplish our goals we’d be better positioned if we joined someone with scale who shared our vision for what was possible with digital audio,” said the company’s co-founders in a Medium post.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed, and it’s not yet clear in what capacity the 60dB team will work with Google.
