Google launches Gemini AI app in the UK

Google UK has launched a dedicated mobile app to allow users to use its AI tool, Gemini.

The technology giant revealed a new Gemini app has launched on its own Android mobile operating system, while iOS will be able to access the AI tool from within the existing Google app “over the next couple of weeks”.

As a result, the tool will allow UK users to use text, voice and images to interact with the virtual assistant.

Commenting on the launch Google’s Group Product Manager for Gemini Experiences, Jules Walter, said: “We remain dedicated to making Gemini available to as many people as possible.

“By expanding our language support and reaching new countries, we’re ensuring more people can supercharge their ideas with Gemini.”

He added: “With the Gemini app on your phone, you can type, talk or add an image for all kinds of help: you can take a picture of your flat tyre and ask for instructions on how to change it or get help writing that thank you note.

“It’s an important first step in building a true AI assistant — one that is conversational, multimodal and helpful.”

The news comes as, last month, the technology giant announced announced it is incorporating Generative AI (GenAI) into its search engines for US users.

During its annual I/O developer conference, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai revealed the expansion of AI tools to US users, which will later be rolled out to various countries by the end of this year.
