Google has launched Google Maps
for the mobile in the UK. Google Mobile Maps comes as a downloadable
Java application direct to the handset from and will

already available in several other countries, including the US, Canada,
Australia, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. Speaking at the launch of Google Mobile Maps, Google UK Head of
Consumer Marketing, Obi Felten, said the launch was part of Googles mission to organise the worlds information and make it
universally accessible and useful. Its built for mobile said Felten. We thought about the user
experience on a smaller screen and what you really need when you are
out and about, like being able to call a business straight away.In addition to mapping the UK, Google Mobile Maps also offers a
satellite photo view, and Local Search facilities. The search results
are organic, rather than paid for, with a location-based element to the
rankings. Search results include a full postal address and telephone
number. Business data is drawn from Yellow Pages, businesses own
submissions, plus third party sources. Users can also use Google Mobile
Maps to find directions from one place to another. Google says that
Local Search has been one of the most popular applications in countries
where Google Mobile Maps is already available.
