Google has made a change to the Play Store which means apps that are of higher quality and work properly are pushed higher up the search – something you’d think would already have been implemented.

The internet giant carried out internal analysis of app reviews on the Play Store and found that half of one-star reviews mentioned app stability, and, as a result, has decided to enhance its algorithms to reflect this. The updated algorithm will see higher quality apps appearing in the Play Store more than similar apps of lower quality – those that crash often.

In a blog post outlining the changes, Google also suggests that developers should focus on the quality and performance of their apps, if they find themselves sliding down the list. To help them through this, they can use the Play Console to guide them toward fixes to their quality issues.

“Google Play strives to help people find and discover safe, high quality, useful, and relevant apps,” said Andrew Ahn, product manager for Google Play. “By focusing on the quality and performance of your app, youll find more success on Google Play.”
