GoPros in Every Race for Tour de France

DCIM103GOPROG0033581.Action cameras have become the accessory of the moment for cyclists, and the organisers of the worlds premier cycling event have taken heed and announced that every stage of the Tour de France will include at least eight bikes equipped with GoPro onboard cameras.

The announcement comes following a deal between GoPro, Tour organiser ASO and Velon, a group of 11 cycling teams who work together to develop the sport through technology and fan interaction.

GoPro cameras were used during the Tour last year, but this year will see an expanded role for the devices, with multiple cyclists in each stage recording footage, which will be available through the races official website, as well as individual team websites and on social networks.

Most of the footage captured by the bike cameras will be edited and shown following each stage of the grueling high-speed contest, but organisers have said they will be testing live image streaming from the bikes during stage twos neutral start in Utrecht.

“By mounting cameras to the fastest cyclists in the world as they take on the 21-stage race, GoPro will be capturing immersive, never-before-seen content, bringing cycling fans inside the peloton,” said a GoPro spokesperson in a blog post announcing the partnership. “Throughout the Tour, GoPro will be publishing the exclusive content on its social channels and providing the ASO with the incredible moments captured across the 3,360-kilometer race.”
