Samsung smartphones and tablets have been cleared for use by members of the UK Government.
CESG, the governments IT security organisation, has approved Samsung devices running Android 4.2.2 or later for use at its Official classification level. Samsung offers a range of APIs to IT administrators, including controls for data-at-rest and data-in-transit, in order to meet the high security demands of these environments.
Traditionally the territory of BlackBerry devices, the move is perhaps a reflection of the improving security measures on smartphones across the board.
“Samsung is delighted that CESG has recognised the commitment of Samsung Android to meeting the strict requirements mandated by UK public sector use,” said Young Lee, executive vice president of Samsungs Europe Telecommunications Operation.
