Groupon Adds Same-day Booking with Blink App Buyout

Groupon has bolstered its mobile travel business and presence in Europe with the buyout of Madrid’s last-minute booking app Blink. 

Blink works with 2,000 hotel partners across eight EU countries – Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and the UK – and offers same-day buying functionality, as well as back-end inventory management for last-minute booking.

Although Groupons total revenues for Q2 increased seven per cent year-on-year, its travel revenues declined by 19 per cent. Travel only represents six per cent of total sales, but the company is keen to increase this. It already operates Groupon Getaways in 48 countries and made more than $39m from holiday deals in Q2.

The Blink app will be rebranded Blink by Groupon and will operate separately as the teams integrate global and European deals.
