GSMA Director General Mats Granryd exits

Mobile network association, GSMA has announced Director General Mats Granryd will step down from his role at the end of March next year.

Having held the position for nine years, and having twice agreed on a contract extension, Granryd will take on a new role as Special Advisor to the Board for the remainder of 2025.

He joined the company in 2015 and has over 40 years of experience in the telecoms industry having held senior positions at Ericsson, Tele2 AB and Swedbank.

In a statement, the association said: “At the GSMA he gained agreement that mobile would be the first industry to commit to the SDGs, transformed the organisation through Covid, significantly increased the association’s influence and positioned it to lead the way on important industry initiatives like Open Gateway, the Investment Gap, and reducing the gender, coverage and usage gaps”.

Meanwhile, the company revealed the board will now action a “well-established plan for succession”.
