Halcrow, a UK-based flood-risk management consultant, has released Flood Alert, a free iPhone app that uses the Environment Agency’s (EA) live flood warning data feeds to enable users to monitor flooding in areas that are important or close to them. The app enables users to receive alerts relating to their current location, as well as up to two additional locations. It can also display flood alerts split into EA regions.
“Over 5m people in England and Wales live and work in properties that are at risk of flooding from rivers or the sea,” says Halcrow’s Richard Crowder. “Everyone in an ‘at risk’ area needs to be aware of flooding and the current weather situation, even when on the go.”
An Android version of the app is set for release later in the year. There’s more information about the app here.
