Smartphone brand OnePlus is staging the world’s first 5G-powered, interactive snowball fight, which will for more than 70 hours in Finland, starting 9 March. The experience will allow anyone from around the world to control the OnePlus Snowbots in a live snowball fight via a dedicated website.
OnePlus was one of the first brands to launch a 5G-ready device in Europe last year. This year, to demonstrate the potential of 5G to change the way people interact with smartphones, OnePlus developed custom-made snowball-firing robots called Snowbots.
The Snowbots will be controlled through OnePlus devices on a 5G network equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, brought to the remote Lapland region by Finnish operator Elisa. OnePlus said the event will allow thousands of community members from across the globe to experience a seamless and lag-free offline-to-online gaming experience like never before seen.
The OnePlus Snowbot Battle, hosted in the Ruka-Kuusamo region of Lapland in Finland, will start on 9 March at 12 noon GMT with a Human vs. Robots event, that will see a select number of people join in teams to play against the 5G-powered Snowbots, operated by users from across the world. From the evening of 9 March to 12 March, the Snowbot Battle will run 24 hours a day.
With the spirit of bringing its community together to experience the event, OnePlus will host a special community contest on its social channels to select a few lucky users who will have the opportunity to travel to Lapland and join the OnePlus Snowbot Battle in person.
