Harry Potter App Edition Hits The App Store

Warner Bros is to expand App Editions of its movies to include Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Due Date.

App Editions allow users to download movies as an app from the Apple App Store. A free download gives you a five-minute preview of the movie, and a selection of content such as games, soundtracks and soundboards. Users can then download the full version of the movie via an in-app purchase, and watch the movie on the device, or stream it via an Apple TV to a TV.

Warner Bros says that the App Editions format allows users in countries where video content is not available on the iTunes Store – such as China and the Netherlands – to access movie content on their iOS device.

“Were pleased to expand our offering of App Editions with these two popular films,” says Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros Digital Distribution. “We saw strong interest with the launch of The Dark Knight and Inception App Editions. In the coming months we expect to launch additional titles, including action and comedy films.”

The apps are available now from the App Store. Purchase of the full version of the films of Harry Potter costs £11.99, while Due Date is £9.99.
