The world’s first commercial LTE dual-mode FDD/TDD (Frequency Division Duplex/Time Division Duplex) network has gone live in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo.
The network is the result of a collaboration between Swedish carrier Hi3G, and telecommunications equipment and network solutions provider, ZTE. It will enable Hi3G to significantly reduce its total cost of ownership by adopting a new generation of energy-saving base stations, and will eventually roll out to the whole of Sweden.
“With the advent of the NMT [Nordic Mobile Telephone network] in 1981, the people in the Nordic region were the first to benefit from genuine cellular coverage,” notes ZTE VP, Wang Shouchen. “30 years on, they will be the first users to benefit from the services delivered by the world’s first dual-mode 4G network. And they can roam to other LTE networks all over the world. It is not only high speed wireless services that new technology brings, for Hi3G this is also an opportunity to evolve the network.”
