Mobile handset maker HTC has launched the HTC EVO 3D in Europe. This Android-based smartphone has a 3D display, which offers 3D viewing effects without the need for glasses.
Viewers can shoot HD home movies and stills photos in 3D, and view them on the 4.3in screen. The device has a dual 5-megapixel camera set-up to allow for 3D images. The phone can shoot and display images in 720p HD.
The HTC EVO 3D also offers HTC Watch, the companys content service that delivers movies via an app that is pre-installed on the phone.
The device is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It is also bundled with HTC Sense – the companys Android modification that puts social feeds on the lock screen for easy access.
“Smartphones have revolutionised how people communicate and entertain themselves on the move,” says Florian Seiche, president of HTC EMEA. “You can now carry your favourite films, music, photos and games in your pocket wherever you go. The HTC EVO 3D allows people to explore this new technology trend beyond the living room, enabling them to capture and share their lives with family and friends in amazing 3D.”
In less-glamourous but equally pertinent news, HTC has also announced that it has set up a European and UK headquarters – in Slough. The HQ was opened in a ceremony officiated by Ed Vaizey MP, the Minister for culture, communications and creative industries, and attended by Peter Chou, HTCs CEO, and Florian Seiche.
“HTC is on a hugely exciting journey, from humble beginnings to a global brand,” said Peter Chou. “HTC is growing on all fronts in 2011; were attracting new, exciting talent to the senior management team and increasing our commitment to local markets through investment in people and partnerships. Our new European office is a natural next step to show our commitment to the EMEA market and we look forward to using this office as a base from which to drive the European mobile market forward in the years to come.”
Florian Seiche says: “Slough is the ideal base from which to operate in Europe and run our UK business, which we have seen go from strength to strength. It offers great transport links with easy access to London and the major travel hubs for the rest of Europe. HTC is committed to expanding our influence in EMEA over the next few years andlook forward to using this new state-of-the-art base to derive more insights into how we will communicate in the future in order to fuel mobile innovation now and in the future.”
The companys EU presence comes on the back of a 93 per cent year-on-year growth in revenue in 2010.
