HTC Launches HTC Dev Developer Framework

HTC has announced a new program to support developers on its HTC Sense Android platform. The programme, called HTC Dev, was announced today during HTC CEO Peter Chous keynote address at the Uplinq 2011 show in San Diego.

The new HTC Dev programme will incorporate developer tools, resources, and a forum for members to communicate with HTC and contribute to the developer community, says Chou.

Addressing the Uplinq 2011 conference, Chou said: “People constantly tell us how much they love HTC Sense for making their phones fun and simple. We wanted to make HTC Sense available to you, to develop applications. We will offer tools and a framework of the HTC OpenSense SDK. This will include APIs, samples, and plug-ins for HTC Sense.”

“HTC Dev will also offer a complete handset resource, tutorials, best practice, documentation, and support. Its an incredible library that will give you very good knowledge of HTC technology.

“Finally, we will engage the developer community around the world. Just as we listen to our consumers, we will listen to our developers ideas and concerns.”

Chou showed a video to the Uplinq audience, which demonstrated how LinkedIn, Gameloft, and Zulu has already used the tools on offer to create applications. The Zulu offering was an art app that allowed users to draw using a stylus.

When its available, more information on HTC Dev will be available at www.htcdev.com, a new website which Chou said will be online “in the coming weeks”.
