HTC Promotes Vive with Second-screening Game

HTC Vive gameHTC has launched a browser game that combines desktop and mobile to promote its upcoming Vive VR headset.

The campaign, created by Google and agency B-Reel, is intended to give consumers a taste of Vives movement tracking functionality through their current smartphones gyroscope. The game appears on the desktop and users interact by moving a paired smartphone around in front of the larger screen.

This experience will be promoted through eight street stunt videos on YouTube, with members of the public taking part in challenges recreating classic videogames, followed by a call to action for viewers to find out if they are Vive ready through the browser game.

“An unrivalled VR experience deserved a unique interactive experience to mark its launch, and we have created exactly that – a motion-based campaign that blurs the line between real and virtual, with movement at its heart,” said B-Reel MD Lins Karnes.

The Vive sold over 15,000 units in the first 10 minutes after preorders opened on Monday. We tried the headset out at MWC – find out what we thought in this video.
