The Avengers is currently smashing a series of cinematic records – and, according to online ticket seller Fandango, that includes on mobile.
The film has sold more tickets during opening weekend than any other in the company’s 12-year history. During peak times, Fandango was selling up to 68,000 tickets an hour for the film.
Those tickets include online and mobile – but interestingly, mobile also accounted for a record percentage of ticket sales, at 42 per cent.
“Fandango continues to see millions of fans taking advantage of our many conveniences and innovations to guarantee their seats, particularly with movies in hot demand like ’The Avengers,’” said Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango. “Our record-setting mobile sales affirm that mobile has clearly transitioned from just an alternative way to buy tickets to a primary choice for many weekend moviegoers.”
As of Monday, the film accounted for 94 per cent of all tickets sold on Fandango – and it looks like theres more money to come, as 66 per cent of viewers plan to see the film more than once in cinemas, according to a Fandango online survey.
