IFTTT Renames App, Launches Do Services

do comboApp and smart home customisation specialists If This Then That (IFTTT) have launched three new apps designed at creating chains of app commands, as well as renaming its core app to simply IF.

IFTTT began life as a service centred around creating chains of simple conditional commands, called recipes, for apps and web services. It has since expanded into the world of smart home devices, and is valued at around $170m (£110m), making it one of the most valuable IoT companies currently in business.

While the IF app functionality remains the same, the three new apps, Do Button, Do Camera and Do Note provide streamlined variations on the companys approach to combining different services.

The Do Button app lets users set one-click controls for smart home appliances and other apps, enabling them to adjust Nest thermostats to their ideal temperature, dim smart light bulbs, send pre-set emails and tweets or activate a security camera.

With the Do Camera app, users can create a personalised camera that enables them to share photos in specific ways in just a few button presses, sending family-friendly pics to parents over Gmail while sending creative images to Tumblr or Pinterest and food pics to Twitter.

Do Note functions in a similar way, but with text commands, letting users quickly create calendar entries, posts across multiple social networks and even type in the colour they want their Philips Hue lightbulbs to change to.

“IFTTTs mission has always been to empower people with creative control over the services and devices they use every day,” said Linden Tibbets, co-founder and CEO of IFTTT. “Our latest product, Do, introduces a simpler and more personal type of Recipe – one that runs with just a tap of a button.”
