ING bank logoING Netherlands has introduced voice-activated payments to its banking app.

Leveraging voice biometrics technology from Nuance Communications, the app is able to recognise users' voices in order to authenticate payments or to log into the user's account.

On iPhone, ING is offering Touch ID fingerprint recognition as another alternative to the conventional passcode.

“Thanks in part to the inclusion of biometric applications, we are able to make banking faster, smoother and easier for our customers and improve access,” said Jeroen Losekoot, internet & mobile marketing manager at ING.

This isn't the first incorporation of Nuance's technology into the ING app. A virtual assistant called 'Inge', powered by the firm's natural language understanding tech, already enables users to do basic tasks like check their balance, and is used by over 100,000 customers in the Netherlands.
