In an indication that the company is further seeking to widen its scope and reach, Instagram has released an update to its apps which enables users to upload videos from the camera roll on both Android and iOS devices.
The update comes with editing features so users can pick the best bit of their video, including trimming and image cropping.
Instagram added video capabilities in June and celebrated double this 4 July when its views outstripped YouTube on mobile. Although this didn’t last, and highlighted Instagrams core use case over YouTube for quick content creation and immediate sharing, the company is clearly looking to make sure that next time it does.
Photos taken on iOS now come with one-tap straightening, as well as a slider for making extra adjustments to in-app shots and photos from your library on both platforms. The company has also added support for video on devices running Android 4.0, previously only available to people with Android 4.1.
In a small added integration with parent company Facebook, iOS users now have the ability to quickly send Instagram photos on its Messenger app on iOS, a function already available to Android users.
