Instagram has introduced AR face filters because it was only a matter of time before it took what is, arguably, Snapchat’s biggest feature. The Facebook-owned app has initially introduced eight filters including koala ears, and various crowns.
Face filters work through both the front and back camera. To access them, the users must swipe into the camera, where they will see a new icon at the at the bottom right corner. By selecting a filter here, users will be able to capture a photo, video, boomerang, or Instagram’s also new ‘rewind’ mode – which plays videos in reverse.
“Whether you’re sitting on the couch at home or you’re out and about, you can use face filters to express yourself and have playful conversations with friends,” said Instagram in blog post.
In addition, the photo-sharing app has introduced hashtag stickers, which enable users to add a hashtag to their story. The last feature added is an eraser brush, which enables the user to remove things they’ve drawn and play around with colour when using drawing tools.
The new features can be accessed through updating Instagram to its 10.21 version on both Android and iOS.
