Instagram is growing faster than ever, hitting 700m monthly users

InstagramInstagram’s constant ‘borrowing’ of features from Snapchat seems to be paying off for the Facebook-owned photo-sharing application, as it is now growing faster than ever.

The app has now hit 700m monthly active users (MAUs), as announced in a blog post. After reaching 600m MAUs back in December 2016, it has taken the app just four months to add another 100m users – which is the fastest Instagram has ever added that number of users.

“We’ve made it even easier for people across the globe to join the Instagram community, share their experiences and strengthen connections to their friends and passions,” Instagram says in the blog post. “With new features like stories, live video and disappearing messages in Direct, people now have more ways than ever to express themselves and feel closer to what matters to them.”

In addition to the number of MAUs, Instagram reaches 400m people everyday. It also revealed earlier this month that it has hit 200m daily active users on its Stories feature – surpassing the 161m that rival Snapchat last reported.

There are also 1m advertisers and 8m business profiles on Instagram – with 80 per cent of Instagrammers following one of these businesses, and a third of the most viewed Stories coming from businesses.
