Instagram Launches Direct Messaging

Instagram has launched a Direct feature, enabling users to send private photo and video messages to friends.
Previously, content had to be shared with all followers but with Direct, the user can select specific recipients. If theyre not following the sender, the recipient will be sent a request, so they can decide whether to view the content – a good way of mitigating the inevitable flood of spam and adult content that will follow the launch. 
The feature is available immediately in Instagrams iOS and Android apps; but not its Windows Phone app, which is still in beta.
