Instagram takes aim at Pinterest with saved post Collections feature

Instagram has taken a leaf out of another service’s book yet again. However, this time, it has chosen not to attack Snapchat, and go after Pinterest instead.

The photo and video sharing app is rolling out the ability to save posts to collections – much like photo sharing rival Pinterest. The feature enables users to create and name a new collection when they save a post, or add the post to a previously created collection. Users are also able to add existing saved posts to collections by tapping on the plus icon in the top right corner of their ‘saved’ section.

There is one big difference between Instagram collections and Pinterest ones, however: Instagram collections will only be viewable by the user who saved them.

“Whether you want to plan your next day trip, revisit your favourite artists’ illustrations or always have some animal videos on hand, collections can help you keep track of the posts you want to remember,” said Instagram in a blog post.

Since introducing ‘saved’ posts to the platform last December, Instagram says 46 per cent of users have saved at least one post.

The roll out of collections comes days after it hit 200m daily active users and copied Snapchat again, with the launch of selfie stickers and geostickers.
