Instagram has updated its Stories feature with stickers – as it bids to take on Snapchat’s geofilters. The sticker tool in the camera lets users add stickers that display the time, weather or location to add context to pictures and videos. For a limited time, for the festive period, special stickers will be available including seasonal images for Christmas and Hanukkah.
To access the stickers, users have to tap the new sticker button, next to the text and drawing tools, after taking a photo or recording a video. Here, they will find all the available customisable stickers. Using location stickers will enable people watching stories to tap the sticker to learn more about the location, but the story will not show up on the location page itself.
In addition to stickers, the update also includes text updates and record & save enhancements. The text updates will enable people to add multiple text fields to any photo or video and choose the alignment of each.
On the recording side of things, Instagram has introduced a new ‘hands-free’ option that lets users start recording video with one tap, compared to pressing and holding as before. Users will also now be able to save their entire story from the previous 24 hours to their camera roll as one video – however, this is only available on iOS for the time being.
