Interactive app Dropit partners with the NBAs Phoenix Suns for in-game mobile auctions

DropitDropit, an interactive app that gives consumers the chance take part in a 60-second live auction for premium products, has signed a partnership with the NBA’s Phoenix Suns to bring its interactive auctions to fans to select games at the Talking Stick Resort Arena.

The app hosts its auctions on scoreboards in stadiums and arenas and gives those that have downloaded its app the opportunity to products that have been provided by a sponsor.

Once an auction has begun, the price starts to drop on the item for 60 seconds and the first people to swipe up on their screen wins the product for the price shown. The longer people wait, the more the prices drops, but there’s an increased risk of someone else jumping in first. Effectively, it’s a game of who has the best judgement and nerve.

The sponsors, which have included Ducati and Mitsubishi so far, take a loss on their product, but see it as an advertising expense.

Dropit has previously partnered with baseball teams during their spring training games in Arizona, as well as a hosts of trial auctions in New Zealand.
