iOS 9 Will Switch to Mobile Data When Your Wi-fi is Weak

iOS 9 iPhoneAnyone who has struggled with weak wi-fi signal in their home or connected to an open network only to find it painfully slow will know the frustration of when your phone insists on connecting to the signal that isnt strong enough to be of any use.

The latest public beta of iOS 9 has revealed that Apple will aim to fix this, with a new feature that will drop bad wi-fi connections and switch to mobile data where it is better, without the need for prompting.

Its a simple solution to an everyday point of pain, but manufacturers and developers have struggled to integrate it as universally as Apple plans to. Certain Samsung devices running Android have similar capabilities, and third-party apps like Tasker and BestSignal also offer this feature, but largely smartphones tend to trust that a seemingly strong signal will offer a good connection.

The new beta test is the fifth such release available to registered developers, aimed at ensuring the next iteration of Apples mobile operating system is bug-free and carries features that will appeal to both developers and consumers.

Also included in this beta test are redesigned icons, Home Sharing support (which was previously absent), a new Handoff UI, changes to how Apple Pay can be activated while on the lock screen and a cleaner experience in the firms new streaming service Apple Music.
