iOS and Windows Makes Small Gains, but Android Still Dominates the US

Android of AndroidsAndroid continues to be the dominant smartphone operating system in the US, despite small gains made by both Apples iOS and Microsofts Windows.

According to comScores data, which covered June to August 2014, 52 per cent of US smartphone subscribers used Android, a drop of 0.1 percentage points from the previous three month period. iOS covered 42 per cent of users, a 0.1 per cent gain, while Windows was a distant third with 3.5 per cent, having also grown by 0.1 per cent.

The figures also covered smartphone manufacturers, with Apple unsurprisingly leading the pack with 42 per cent of users, exactly matching their OS split. Samsung was the strongest of the Android manufacturers, with 28.9 per cent of users, a 1.1 percentage point increase on the previous three months.

LG grew slightly, rising 0.2 points to 6.7 per cent of users, while Motorola and HTC both dropped to 5.4 per cent and 4.5 per cent respectively.
