iPhone 5 Launches Gives iOS Impressions a Five Per Cent Boost

The launch of the iPhone 5 gave iOS a five per cent boost in market share over Android, according to Veltis State of Mobile Advertising report for September. Apples devices accounted for 62 per cent of all mobile ad impressions over the month.

“In July and August, Android held prevalent market share in a year that was previously dominated by iOS – but September marked an end to this trend,” said Krishna Subramanian, CMO of Velti. “We are seeing a pattern that leads us to believe the shift back to iOS domination is a result of the iOS 6 release and iPhone 5 launch. In fact, this is similar to the change we saw directly after the iPhone 4S release, when iOS volume also spiked by five per cent.”

But while the release of iOS 6 seems to have pushed this growth, 11 per cent of users have opted not to upgrade, and have stuck with a previous version of the OS.

The iPhone 5 has been most widely adopted in the US, with 43 per cent of impressions from the device coming from the US – followed by Japan with 14 per cent of impressions, and the UK with eight per cent. Samsung has a clear lead in its home market of Korea, however, with the Galaxy S2 making up 16 per cent of all impressions. Thats nearly four times the nearest Apple device, the iPhone 3, with a five per cent share.
