Solaris Mobile, the Dublin-based operator of hybrid satellite and terrestrial wireless networks, has been acknowledged by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Its Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) system has been included in the ITU-Radiocommunications list of MSS systems that can provide relief operation in the event of natural disasters and similar emergencies.
Matt Child, Solaris Mobiles chief commercial officer, says: “Solaris Mobile is delighted with this recommendation from the International Telecommunication Union, which means Solaris Mobile’s technology is making even more ground-breaking steps.”
As well as providing everyday public interest services, including high-speed mobile internet, public service broadcasts and location-based services, the MSS system could be used in the event of terrestrial network infrastructure failure.
