Use of tablets while watching TV has increased by 225 per cent in the UK since February, according to the second wave of research from ITVs Lives project.
This has been driven by a 152 per cent growth in tablet ownership, with 32 per cent of Brits owning a tablet according to ITV.
However, despite this move towards mobile technology, people arent moving away from linear TV, with 90 per cent still watching programmes at the time of broadcast.
The research breaks down the UK population into four categories – from youngest to oldest, they are Social (which makes up nine per cent of Brits), Connected (28 per cent), Busy (28 per cent), and Traditional (35 per cent).
Unsurprisingly, the Traditional group are least likely to own mobile devices, at 27 per cent for smartphones – compared to 91 per cent for those in the Social group – and 18 per cent for tablets, and accordingly, their second-screen activity is most likely to take place on a laptop.
