iZettle Tests the Water in the UK

Payments service iZettle has launched its beta programme in the UK, with MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club. Combining an iOS and mini chip-card reader, iZettle enables users to take credit card payments using their smartphone.

“MasterCard is working with partners across the industry to drive the development of smart, simple and safe payments and make our vision of a world beyond cash into a reality,” says Marion King, president of MasterCard UK & Ireland. “We’ve been supporting iZettle since its inception in Sweden, and believe the pilot in the UK is another important step towards enabling commerce, by offering cardholders and micro-merchants the choice to make and receive payments in an innovative new way.”

iZettle charges users a percentage of the sale, rather than a setup fee or regular subscription, and is compliant with PCI-DSS, and EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) approved.
