Jaguar Land Rover has welcomed two new startups in the form of Lisnr and Pilot to its Portland-based tech incubator, which it created in January 2016 with the aim of advancing innovation for the automotive industry.

To deal with bad connectivity, limited range, battery drainage and the need for additional hardware, Lisnr’s ultrasonic audio technology uses software and sound to transmit customisable streams of data over audio just above the human hearing range. It aims to improve overall in-car connectivity, as well as working to eliminate the risks of peer-to-peer data transmission over connected devices.

“Jaguar Land Rover is excited to partner with Lisnr and explore future use of the existing in car audio system for applications beyond just audio such as proximity data transmission, second-screen functionality, and in-vehicle aggregated media experiences,” said Tami Wood, community lead at Jaguar Land Rover North America, in a blog post.

Meanwhile, Pilot has the goal of reducing the number of lives lost in road traffic accidents every year by using its technology to make any car fully autonomous. Its three-part solution offers the ability to apply Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) feature to vehicles currently on the roads. It can assist with navigation, blind spots, road signs, lane departures, and obstacles.

“Through collaboration with the PILOT team we will be able to further investigate using crowd sourced data from aftermarket Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) solutions to build the next generation of autonomy algorithms,” said Wood.
