Jet Airways Adopts QR Codes

Indian international airline Jet Airways has turned to QR (Quick Response) code technology to disseminate more information about its products and services to its guests, becoming the first Indian airline to do so.

Jet Airways is using 3GVision’s i-nigma 2D mobile barcode solution on its website; in its in-flight magazine, JetWings; and on FaceBook posts, to enable guests to access real-time digital information. In the second phase, Jet Airways also plans to include the quick response barcodes on its eTickets.

Jet Airways customers can get hold of the i-nigma reader by pointing their mobile browser at i-nigma.mobi, or by texting ‘i-nigma’ to +449997 882325, or 07797 882325 in the UK, to receive a link to download the reader by return SMS. The reader is also available through mobile app stores. When the code is scanned, the user is taken to the airline’s mobile internet site, though presumably not while airborne.

As part of the collaboration, 3GVision is providing Jet Airways with access to its campaign management platform which enables real-time reporting on metrics including approximate response location, time and media types responded to.
“Quick Response barcodes provide an effective and responsive platform to facilitate a high level of engagement with our guests,” says Jet Airways CCO, Sudheer Raghavan. “Especially since this technology harnesses the power of digital information, giving guests on the move, all the information they need, on their handsets. Placing the barcodes in our magazine serves to further the editorial conversation with our travellers through value-add information and services.”

The i-nigma reader supports more than 450 types of GSM mobile phones, across all leading mobile operating systems and platforms.
