Juniper Research has released its report, Mobile Payment Markets: Strategies & Forecasts 2010-2014.
The report forecasts that the total value of mobile payments for digital and physical goods, money transfers and NFC (Near Field Communications) transactions will reach almost $630bn (£426bn) by 2014, up from $170bn this year, representing the gross value of all purchases or the value of money being transferred.
It notes also that SMS ticketing schemes, such as those offered by OBB Austrian Railways and Skane Traffic in Sweden, have been important developments in the mobile payments market. And it says that shopping by mobile at stores such as Amazon Mobile is tipped for significant expansion over the next five years.
Juniper’s analysis shows that whilst the digital goods segment will account for nearly half of the market in 2010, the emerging segments such as physical goods payments, NFC and money transfers will impact the market rapidly. By 2014, for example, Juniper forecasts that the physical goods mobile payments market will be worth $100bn, and that in developing markets, SMS-driven money transfer services are the main driver, increasing at a rate of 30 per cent per annum.
The report analyzes the entire mobile payments market, providing case studies and vendor comparisons, as well as forecasts for digital and physical goods payments, NFC payments and mobile money transfer and remittances.
For each mobile payment segment, the report provides five-year forecasts for gross mobile payment transaction value in eight key regions. Through one-on-one interviews and 22 case studies across the mobile payments market, the report explores many of the live products and services, and discusses how the sectors are becoming increasingly blurred as service providers are expanding their product offering.
The report looks at the size and growth of the total mobile payments market, and considers the key factors driving market growth. It looks at which segments of the mobile payments market are growing the fastest, and at regional market sizing trends? It also investigates the strategies of the key mobile payments providers.
