KakoaHome Hits 1m Downloads in 13 Days

KakaoHome, the latest Android app released by South Korean messaging company Kakao, has passed the 1m download mark, 13 days after its launch.

Thats particularly impressive given that the app is currently only available in Korea, and its rate of downloads is actually accelerating – the milestone came just four days after it reached 500,000 downloads.

KakaoHome is a homescreen launcher for the companys range of apps. It offers a variety of widgets and customisable themes, but its primary appeal lies in enabling the 90m users of OTT messaging app KakaoTalk to send messages and make voice calls without having to open the app.

The app isnt too dissimilar in terms of functionality to Facebook Home, which conversely has struggled to find an audience since its launch. Last week the HTC First smartphone, intended to act as the flagship handset for Home, had its UK launch delayed indefinitely while Facebook tries to turn the apps fortunes around.
