Kapersky App Photographs Smartphone Thieves

Kaspersky Lab has updated its Android security solution with a feature, called Mugshot, which enables users to identify thieves by taking photos of them using the phones front-facing camera.

The feature is activated via a web management interface, where users can also wipe data on the device or restore factory settings, block the device, or locate it using the GPS receiver. Users can also control the device remotely via SMS commands.

“In this update we’ve paid specific attention to anti-theft features,” said Victor Dronov, head of mobile products division, Kaspersky Lab. We know that consumers often lose important data when their smartphone is lost or stolen. According to a recent survey, 14 percent of users have experienced an incident of this kind. The new version of Kaspersky Mobile Security adds additional functionality in order to increase the chances of recovering a lost or stolen device.”
