KFC launches weird VR training game that teaches you how to cook fried chicken

KFC VR training gameKFC has introduced a bizarre way to show employees how to cook its signature Original Recipe friend chicken: through a creepy VR ‘escape room’ featuring a slightly demonic Colonel Sanders.

As first reported by Eater, the VR portion of the fast food chain’s training program will be experienced via Oculus Rift headsets. In the experience, trainees will have to play through the five-step cooking process that KFC’s chicken supposedly goes through. That’s inspecting, rinsing, breading, racking, and pressure-frying – if you were wondering. They have to do this why being egged on by a seemingly possessed Colonel Sanders.

Once successfully through all phases of making the chicken, the trainee ‘feeds’ a Colonel Sanders face on a door, and when he approves, they head into the light – are they implying working for KFC is like death? – and then appear in the staff break room at a KFC branch. It’s all very BioShock or Fallout 4-esque.

“KFC will use the VR simulation to supplement its robust, multi-step employee training program, called Chicken Mastery Certification, which provides detailed eLearning and hands-on training for cooks in each of KFC’s kitchens,” a KFC spokesperson said. “KFC will provide yet another platform for training by bringing the VR simulation technology to its regional general manager training classes, quarterly franchise meetings, and employee onboarding.”
